farming. he has one brother: Alex. He is a Selective Service man and went from this county on November 23,1917, and on July 12, 1918, was transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y., and on the last of the month sailed for France. He was attached to Headquarters Co. 337th infantry, as cook. He is still in France.

Was born Maple Valley Township, August 23, 1893, son of John and Margaret Salisbury, acquired his education at the District No. 4 school. His occupation was farming. he has three sisters and two brothers: Nellie, Annie, Ethel; Sherman and William. He is a Selective Service man going to Camp Custer on September 21, 1917, and was transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y., July5, 1918, sailing for France July 31, 1918. He is a Wagoner in Supply Co.328th Field Artillery. He is still in France.

Was born in Bridgehampton Township, May 24, 1894, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Phillips, attended the Deckerville school. He is a Selective Service man and went to Camp Eustis, Va., September, 1918. He was attached to the Anti-Aircraft Sector. Received his discharge from the service, November, 1918.

Was born at St. Helen, Michigan, June 26, 1891, son of Edward and Sarah Dugay, and was educated in the Brown City schools. His occupation was farming. he has one sister: Mae. Ht tried to enlist in both the army and navy at Flint, March, 1917, but was not accepted. He is a Selective Service man going to Camp Custer April 29, 1918, later was transferred to Camp Merritt, New Jersey, sailing for overseas in August, 1918. He belongs to Co. G, 168th Infantry. He was wounded.

PTE. HENRY HOPPENWORTH

APPLEGATE

Was born in Sanilac Township, September 7,1895, son of A. and Alice Hoppenworth, and acquired his education at the Pine Hill school. His occupation was farming. He has three bothers and two sisters: William, Martin, and Clearence; Marie and Lila. He is a Selective Service man, going to Camp Custer September 21. He was promoted to rank of first class private, and was a member of  F, 338th Infantry. He sailed for France July 13th with the 85th Division and returned home.

Was born at Marlette, January 1, 1891, son of Archibald and Manda Robinson, acquired his education at the Marlette school. His occupation was garage man. He is a Selective S service man and left this county for Camp Custer November 22, 1917, later he was transferred to Camp MacArthur, Texas, December 25, 1917 sailing for France January, 1918, with Co. E, 125th Infantry. He is now in Germany with the army of occupation.

Was born in Argyle Township, April 24, 1894, son of Henry and Louise Vatters, and acquired his education at Tamarack college. He has two brothers and five sisters: Federick, and George; Mary, Anna, Margaret, Ella and Alice. He is an Enlisted man, entering the service at Detroit, October25, 1917, and was sent to Columbus Barracks. He sailed for France October 1918, and is still overseas. He belongs to Co. A, Coast Artillery.

PTE. STANLEY F. MORRELL

TYRE

Was born in Austin Township, May 7th, 1896, son of Wilfred and Eliza Morrell, acquiring his education at the Tyre school. His occupation was farming. he has four sisters and three brother: Eva, Elizabeth, Sophia and Lauretta; Theodore, James and Wilfred. He is  Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer September 21, 1917. On July 16, 1918, was transferred to New York, sailing for France with Co. B, 310th Military Police.

 

PTE. FRANK ERBE

APPLEGATE

Was  born in Lansing, Michigan, December 22, 1891, son of Bernhard and Auguta Ebre, and attended the Pine Hill school. His occupation was farming. he has four brothers and three sisters: Lewis, Ernest, Walter and Harry; Clara, Emile and Lila. He is a Selective Service man and left for Camp Custer on May 27, 1918, and was transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y., in July, sailing for Russia in August, and is a member of Co. H, 339th Infantry. He is still overseas.

CORP. CHARLES B. CUDNEY

APPLEGATE

Was born at Applegate, December 15, 1894, son of  Charles E. And Elise Cudney, and as educated at the rural school and the Croswell High school. His occupation was farming. He is a Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer September 21, 1917. He was transferred to Camp MacArthur, Waco, Texas, October 20, 1917, but in January of the following year he was sent to Camp Merritt, N. J., sailing for France February, 1918. He was promoted to rank of Corporal in September, 1918, attached to Battery F, 119th Field Artillery, and returned home May, 1919.

PTE. WINFEILD R. WILEY

SANDUSKY

Was born at Carsonville, June 22, 1897, son of Hourace H. and Minnie Wiley, gradu1ated from the Sandusky high school June, 1915. His occupation was bank clerk. He has one sister, Fledda M. He is a Selective Service man, enlisting at Detroit July 30, 1918. Reported a Detroit for duty August 5, and was assigned to the Quartermasters’ Corps and sent to Columbus Barracks. Later he was transferred to Camp Meigs, Washington, D. C. and was assigned to the Gas and Oil unit the first of its kind to be established in the army. Was transferred to ?Camp Merritt, N. J., and sailed for France October 14. He is now at Camp De Coetquidan, Guer, France in the forage and fuel department.

 

CORP. JOHN CURRAN

SANDUSKY

Was born in Watertown Township, April 8, 1894, son of Joseph and Margaret Curran, attended the District school. His occupation was farming. He has three brothers: Edward, Frank, and Arthur. He is a Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer September 21, 1917. He was promoted to rank of Corporal December 1, 1918. He sailed overseas July 6, 1918, and was a member of the 58th Infantry Co. H. Third Army. He has been discharged from the service. 

   

PTE. EDWARD R. HOBSON

SNOVER

Was born in Lamotte Township, April 1, 1896, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hobson, attended the District school. His occupation was farming. He has seven sisters: Lulu, Frances, Olive, Hazel, Ella, Evelyn and Alice. He is a Selective Service man and went to Columbus Barracks April 29, 1918, was transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala., sailing for overseas June 9, 1918, a member of Co. I. He is still in the service.

PTE. FREDERICK BISSETT

SANDUSKY

Was born in Elmer Township, January 7, 1891, son of James and Isabell Bissett, attended the Laurel school. His occupation was farming. he had four brothers: James Archibald, William and John. He was a selective Service man. and went to Camp MacArthur Texas, July 17, was moved to Camp Merritt, N. J., sailing for France the first of August. He was a member of the 55th Infantry, 7th Division. Died September 23, 1918, in France of  Pneumonia.

 

PTE. JOHN L. SAIGEON

SANDUSKY

Was born in Lamotte Township, February 2, 1897, son of Jacob and Mary Saigeon., attended the District school. His occupation was farming. He has three brothers and one sister: Rennie, James and George; Mabel. He is an enlisted man, entering the service at Alliance, Neb.; was transferred to Camp Upton, July 2, 1918, sailing for France September 25. Was promoted to rank of First Class Private April 3, 1918. He was a member of Battery B, 127th Field Artillery. He received his honorable discharge from the service January 27th 1919.

Was born in Elk Township, October 27, 1898, son of Alfred C. and Sarah A. King, attended the Sandusky schools. He was engaged in the poster advertising with his father. He has two brothers and one sister: Orville E. and Faye H.: Delia. He is an enlisted man joining the engineers at Philadelphia, March, 1918. He received his training at Camp American University, Washington. D. C. He sailed for overseas May 10, a member of 6th Co., 20th Engineers, and s still in his country’s service.

Was born April , 1896, at Deckerville, son of Arthur and Elias Green, attended school at Sandusky. His occupation was farming. he has four brothers and three sisters: Lloyd, Percy, Claude, and Stanley; Gladys, Ila and Eliza. He is Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer April 1, 1918, and as transferred from there to Camp Gordon, Ga. He was a member of the 29th Division, 115th Infantry. He has returned home.

Chambers, Clara and Emma; Tony, Leo, Theodore, Eddie and William. He was a Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer September 21, 1917. He sailed from New York April 1918, for France. He was attached to the Cooks and Bakers department. He arrived home May, 1919.

Was born in Lapeer County, July 16, 1893, son of Mrs. Jennie Fox, and attended District school. His occupation is farming. he has two sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Gladys Gould, Romeo, and Mrs. Myrtle Blach, Lapeer; George, Glenn, Clare and Claud. He is a Selective service man and to camp Custer September 22, 1918-7, was transferred to Camp MacArhtur, Texas, in October.  He sailed for France January 1918. Was a member of Machine Gun Co., 125th Infantry, 32nd Division. Was wounded at Chateau Thierry August 4, 1918. Received his honorable discharge and returned home January 20, 1919.

Was born at Cadillac, Michigan., February 8, 1897, son of A. T. and Jessie McMrtru Tweedie, attended Croswell schools. His occupation was mechanist. He has two brothers and one sister: Herbert and Earl; Esther. He is a Selective Service man and was sent to Columbus Barraks may 10,  1918, from there transferred to Waco, Texas, and later to Camp Mills, N. Y He sailed for France August,  1918, a member of Co. E., 64th Infantry, 7th Division. He is now with the army of occupation in Germany.

Was born at Sandusky, September 3, 1890, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Gillam, attended the Sandusky schools. His occupation was line man. he has one sister and three brothers: Mrs. Lena Alcock: Frank, Samuel and Verne. He is a Selective Service man and went to Camp Greenleaf, Ga., March 5, 1918. He sailed for France in July. He belonged to Ambulance Co. No. 2. Was promoted to rank of Sergeant April, 1918. He is located at Toul, France, he was married to Miss Jessie Boddy, in 1916.

Was born in Marion Township, April 2, 1896, son of Jonathan and Ruth Graham, attended the Morse school. His occupation was farming. he has four brothers and six sisters. Leslie, Gordon, Arthur and Clare; Martha, Rettia, Mary, Gertrude, Trudia and Ruth. He is a Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer May 27th 1918. He was transferred to Camp Mills, N. Y., in July, and on the 27th sailed for Russia. He is Now stationed in Russia with the 85th Division. He is a member of Co. H, 339th Infantry.

Was born at Brown City, May 6th 1895, son of Herman and Amelia Poth, and was educated in the Brown City schools. His occupation was farming.  he has two brothers and one sister: Hilmer and Roy; Mrs. Edna Payne. He was married on September 15, 1917, to Miss Verra Karcher, at Brown City, by Rev. S. S. Rosenberger. He is a selective Service man and left for Camp Custer on April 27, 1918, leaving for overseas in July of  the same year with Co. A, 339th Infantry, and has not yet returned home.

Was born in Elmer Township, April 7, 1895, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tank, attended the District school. His occupation was farming. he was a Selective service man and went to Camp Custer May 27, 1918. Was transferred to Camp Mills, July 14, and left for overseas on the 21st of the same month. He was a member of Co. A, 339th Infantry. He returned home march 11, 1919.

Was born at Chicago, November 6, 1892, son of John and Bella Schram, attended District and Sandusky schools. Hiss occupation was farming. He has three sister: Margaret, Ruth and Helen. He was a Selective Service man and went to Camp Custer September 21, 19917. Was transferred to Waco, Texas, in October and from there went to Camp Merritt, N. J. He sailed for France  February, 1918. He belonged to Co. B 128th Infantry, 32nd Division. He received his honorable discharged and returned home March 17, 1919.

 

 

CAPT. ROBERT JOHN HOFFMAN

SANDUSKY

Was born at Saginaw, September 2, 1896, son of Mr. and Mrs. H H. Hoffman. He has one brother and sister: William and Ruth. He graduated from the Sandusky high school June, 1914, entered the United States Military Academy, West Point., N. Y.; graduated from that institution August 301917. Was commissioned second Lieutenant day of graduation, commissioned First Lieutenant the same day. Was assigned to Precdio, of California on October, 1917. Was transferred to Camp Fremont, California, in December, 1917, made company commander January, 1918. In March was assigned to

Fort Sill Okla., Infantry School of Arms. Graduated as instructor and returned to Camp Fremont April 1918, and was assigned to Headquarters American  Expeditionary Forces, Siberia. Was commissioned Captain August 31, 1818. He is in permanent assignment of the army.

Was born at Bad Axe, Huron County, October 16, 1890, son of Phillip and Margaret Harrison, attended the Minden City schools, later graduating from Chicago University. His occupation is Veterinary surgeon. He has four sister: Maud, Lila, Bertie and Ruth. He was an Enlisted man enlisting in the Veterinary Corps at Detroit January 25, 1918. Was sent to Camp Greenleaf,  Ga. Was recommended for a Second Lieutenant commission November 14. Received his honorable discharge from the service December 14, 1918.

Was born in Adrain, October 24, 1898, son of Richard and Charlotte Wightman, attended school at Deckerville and District No. 3, Wheatland township. His occupation was farming. he has one sister: H. Olive. He was inducted into to service October 2, 1918, at Lansing. He was a member of Co. E, S. A. T. C., M. A. C. He was discharged from service December 3, 1918.

PTE. FRANK A. SHEPPARD

MARLETTE

Was born at Marlette, April 11, 1900, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sheppard, attended Marlette school. His occupation was school teacher. He has three brothers and one sister: Bruce, Jay and Lawrence; Ethel. He was inducted into the service at M. A. C. October 1, 1918. He belonged to Co., E, S. A. T. C.  Received his discharge December 21, 1918.

BUGLER AUDREY C. KELLY

SANDUSKY

Was born at Sandusky October 20, 1898, son of Charles E. and Grace L. Kelly, attended high school Sandusky, class ’17, and Alma college. Occupation chemistry student. He has three sisters; Auguta, Grace and Marjorie. Was inducted into service October 9, 1918, Alma. He was a member of Alma College S. A. T. C.  Discharged from the service December 21, 1918

PTE. PERCY F. TEMPLE

SANDUSKY

Was born in Elmer Township, March 11, 1898, son of Albert A. and Rachel Temple, graduated from Sandusky high school. He has  three brothers and three sisters: Albert B, Joseph H. and George; Mrs. Ernest Quick, Mrs. Percy Green and Mrs. W. Nelson. He was inducted into the S. A. T. C. at alma college October 9, 1918.. received his discharge December 15, 1918.
